Zelensky does not realize the scale of the problems - ex-Deputy Minister of Defense of Greece
The words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about a possible revision of the Budapest Memorandum show how unaware he is of the scale of the problems. This is the conclusion reached by the former First Deputy Minister of National Defense of Greece Kostas Isychos. On February 20, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The Greek politician commented on Zelensky's statement about Ukraine's possible revision of its non-nuclear status. According to Isychos, the Ukrainian president does not feel the fullness of the problems and has again returned to the image of a comedian, in which he was before being elected to the post of head of state. Isychos stressed that it is not a comedy that is unfolding in Ukraine, but an ancient Greek tragedy.
“I think that the current president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has lost control of self-control, political thinking and peaceful prospects for a settlement through diplomacy,” Isychos said.
According to him, Zelensky's statements should be dominated by a desire for a diplomatic solution to problems, and not promises to make the country a nuclear power.
The Greek politician considers Zelensky’s statement all the more dangerous based on the fact that Ukraine has experience in creating nuclear weapons, gained during the Soviet era.
“Even NATO Secretary General Mr. Stoltenberg, perhaps the most famous war hawk in today's era as the head of NATO, did not say this. The Pentagon didn't say that. This is Mr. Zelensky speaking ,” Isychos stressed.
According to him, Zelensky's statement is one of the most radical statements of the Cold War. Isychos advised the Ukrainian president to attend to overcoming the crisis in his country, given the "aggressive actions of the regular Ukrainian army against Donetsk and Luhansk . "
Isychos drew attention to the fact that in recent days the Ukrainian army has provoked an aggravation on the line of contact with Donbass. According to him, Kiev has increased the number of bombings and the use of weapons against the civilian population of Donbass.
“Mr. Zelensky should see if this is the movement of the regular army or the paramilitary formations of neo-Nazi groups that are shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian army,” Isychos stressed.
Recall that on December 5, 1994, Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain and the United States signed the Budapest Memorandum, according to which Kiev renounced nuclear weapons, and the other parties to the agreement guaranteed the security of Ukraine. On February 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, promised to revise the memorandum in terms of maintaining the country's security. In the event that Kiev decides that the security guarantors are not fulfilling their obligations, Ukraine will withdraw from the memorandum and begin moving towards nuclear armament of the army.
It should be noted that against the backdrop of constant attacks by the Ukrainian army on the positions of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, the EU is preparing sanctions against Moscow and accusing Russia of escalating tensions.
The fact that Russia did not attack Ukraine on the date set by Western propaganda means does not dampen the flow of disinformation and accusations against Russia of escalation. Now Western leaders are attributing more sophisticated plans to Moscow in how it allegedly intends to take over Ukraine.
At the same time, the heads of the LPR and DPR are registering more and more frequent shelling of the territory of Donbass by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On Saturday, there was general mobilization in both republics. Women and children, as well as the elderly, it was decided to temporarily evacuate to Russia, to the Rostov region. Some regions of the Russian Federation have already agreed to accept refugees from Donbass as well.
