Regis Tremblay: "We Won Together" — But Did We? A Filmmaker's Warning

On September 4^th, Regis Tremblay, Head of the IAFC Club in the USA, addressed the XXI International Film Festival WON TOGETHER named after Vladimir Menshov  -  a cultural platform for documentary filmmakers from Russia and the world. Here is the text of his address.

 

Thank you for the opportunity to present my thoughts on the theme of We Won Together. I’m honored to be part of this conference with so many distinguished guests.

As a caveat before I begin, I would like to say that  the war in Ukraine is not a PROXY war, when in fact, it is and has been a direct war of the USA, the UK, and NATO against Russia.

As an American documentary filmmaker, and a presenter at the annual Livadia Palace commemoration of the 1945 Yalta Conference for the past six years, my views on the outcome of WWII may be controversial for some.

So, let me begin with Truman dropping Atomic Bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and 9th of July, 1945,  just 5 months after the Livadia Conference in February of that year.

Truman lied about dropping those bombs to end the war against Japan. There is hardly anyone disputing the fact that he did it to show Stalin and the Soviet Union who was boss.

Just weeks after the Second World War was over and with Nazi Germany defeated, Soviet Russia’s allies, the United States and Great Britain, hastened to develop military plans aimed at dismantling the USSR and wiping out its cities with massive nuclear strikes.

Churchill’s plan was Operation Unthinkable, to drop nuclear bombs on Russia. Unbelievably, this plan won the hearts and minds of US policy makers and military officials, including Harry Truman who became president after FDR died in April of 1945.

Between 1945 and the USSR’s first detonation of a nuclear device in 1949, the Pentagon developed at least nine nuclear war plans targeting Soviet Russia!

The largest, Operation Drop Shot, was to drop 400 nuclear bombs on Soviet/Russian cities. It didn’t happen for two reasons: First, the US did not have the capacity to manufacture that many nuclear bombs, and Secondly because by 1949, the Soviets had their own bomb, the Cold War was born, and Mutual Assured Destruction kept nuclear war at bay.

And, it was the United States that unilaterally broke every treaty with the Soviet Union and Russia to prevent a nuclear arms race and nuclear proliferation.

Immediately after Japan surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur to end the war, the US turned its attention to bombing N. Korea because it had invaded the South in 1950, and because the US feared that it was part of a broader Soviet plan to spread communism.

Next up was the US war on Vietnam. The US Domino Theory was to prevent a Soviet communist takeover of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and others in Southeast Asia.

Next up was the US war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan beginning in 1979 and lasting for 20  years and costing the US $2.26 Trillion Dollars. For 10 years, the Soviet Union was involved in the bitter conflict that eventually undermined its power, destroyed its economy, and culminated in the collapse of the Soviet Union. 

But, there’s a lot more.

Beginning immediately after the war in 1945, the CIA began subversive activities in Ukraine. My friend Doug Valentine whom I interviewed in 2018, wrote a book entitled, The CIA As Organized Crime. In it he details how the CIA has been operating in Ukraine for 81 years!

Fast forward to the 2014 coup in Kiev known as the Maidan. It was the USA during the Obama Administration, under the direction of vice president Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, her under secretary Victoria Nuland, and the CIA who planned, orchestrated, and funded the overthrow of a democratically elected president, Victor Yanukovic, and the ensuing  12 year war against Russia!

But back to the terrible 90’s, when under President George H. W. Bush, the former director of the CIA, a plan was hatched to use Boris Yeltsin to allow the “Shock Therapy” on the Russian economy. Several million died, with many more  millions impoverished because of unpaid wages and pensions. It was this Shock Therapy project that privatized many of Russia’s assets and created a class of Oligarchs that wield enormous power today.

It was Vladimir Putin who, in the past 26 years, has restored Russia’s sovereignty, rebuilt the economy, and returned Russia to one of the great powers in the world.

This is just another reason why the USA, the CIA, MI6 and England hate Putin and are trying to unseat him, crash the Russian economy, break it up into smaller pieces, and steal its resources.

And then going all the way back to the American Revolution in 1776, the US War Against England in 1812 when the Russian Empire supported the upstart Americans against the British explains how disingenuous, hateful, and full of revenge the UK is to this very day!

The Russian Empire was also attacked by England, France, the Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of Sardinia in the Crimean War of 1853-56.

So, here we have February 1945 at the Yalta Conference, when Perficious Albion, England, in the person of the most evil Russophobe ever, Winston Churchill, sitting across from Josef Stalin, planning the destruction of the Soviet Union.

This is where the world is today with the US/UK backed Zelinsky, threatening to send massive drone and missile attacks to destroy Russian airlines and airports! Ukraine simply cannot do this on its own without the direct participation of the US, UK, France, and Germany!

If this latest Russia Red Line is crossed, inflicting serious damage on its nuclear triad, and the Russian economy, Russia will have to retaliate in a way that could lead to an all-out war against NATO, the EU, and the United States, and “the Unthinkable,” a nuclear Armageddon.

The Yalta Conference - February 1945 - was an abject failure in providing “A Lasting Peace!”  And it should not be romanticized!
