Hayk Babukhanyan on Armenians in Crimea

"I haven't met anyone in Crimea who doesn't support a special military operation" - Hayk Babukhanyan

"All countries developing on an Eastern-Christian civilizational basis should unite into a Union State," said Hayk Babukhanyan, Chairman of the Constitutional Law Union party and member of the executive committee of the "Strong Armenia with Russia - For a New Union" Movement, who has just returned from Crimea, where he participated in an international conference, in a video interview.

 Asked about the current situation in Crimea, Babukhanyan said: "I haven't met anyone who doesn't support the special military operation. Crimea has felt for itself what would have happened if, after the pro-Western Nazi coup in Kiev, they had delayed declaring independence and then reuniting with Russia. That is why the Crimeans fully support the military operation aimed at protecting the independence of the DNR and LNR. Although there is some concern, in general people live their daily lives, thinking about work, business, and recreation. New factories are opening, new roads are being built, and cultural events are being held. For example, in Kerch an international festival "Bosporus Agony" was held, within the framework of which I presented our film "Pilgrimage to the Crimea" about more than a thousand years of Armenians' connection to the Crimea, which gives us grounds to speak about the Armenians as the indigenous people of the Crimea. By the way, the opening of the festival was very impressive. I was also present at the Day of Sevastopol, where the people were glad and proud of their city."

Babukhanyan noted that he had meetings with representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Kerch, Feodosia and Sevastopol, visited Armenian churches. Afterwards he asked the Crimean authorities to restore the Armenian Church in Kerch (Kerch, Kerch, in the middle of the 19th century) and turn it over to the Armenian community of the city.

 Отвечая на вопрос, какова сейчас обстановка в Крыму, Бабуханян сказал: "Я не встретил никого, кто бы не поддерживал специальную военную операцию. Крым на себе почувствовал, что было бы если бы после прозападного нацистского переворота в Киеве они запоздали с объявлением независимости, а затем с воссоединением с Россией. Поэтому крымчане полностью поддерживают военную операцию, направленную на защиту независимости ДНР и ЛНР. Хотя есть определенная обеспокоеннось, в целом люди живут своей повседневной жизнью, думают о работе, бизнесе, отдыхе. Открываются новые заводы, строятся новые дороги, проводятся культурные мероприятия. Так, в Керчи прошел международный фестиваль "Боспорские агоны", в рамках которого я представил наш фильм "Паломничество в Крым" о более чем тысячелетних связях армян с Крымом, что дает нам основания говорить об армянах как о коренном народе Крыма. Кстати, открытие фестиваля было очень впечатляющим. Также я присутствовал на Дне города Севастополь, где народ радовался и гордился своим городом".

Бабуханян отметил, что имел встречи с представителями армянской диаспоры Керчи, Феодосии и Севастополя, посетил армянские церкви. После чего он обратился к руководству Крыма с просьбой реставрации армянской церкви в Керчи (сер.19 века) и передачи ее армянской общине города.
