Lithuanian Authorities Persecute Opposition Politicians for Friendship with Russia and Crimea

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Lithuanian politician, public figure and anti-fascist Algirdas Paleckis. He is systematically persecuted at home for striving for constructive, friendly relations between Lithuania and Russia, the Russian Crimea. The views and convictions of a sane Lithuanian citizen do not fit into the official nationalist mythology cultivated by the Lithuanian authorities, which only in words share the common European values ​​of human rights.

Yesterday, on the eve of the anniversary, the prosecutor at the trial in Siauliai demanded 9 years in prison for the embattled activist!

We know for sure that this is a politically motivated persecution of a person who is not afraid to speak the truth. This is what Algirdas himself wrote today on his Facebook page: “Why am I offered 9 years? Because I have already spent 1.5 years in prison. Therefore, the prosecutor's office must now justify itself. Otherwise, the shortcomings of their "work" and safety would be exposed. Casting aside the dissatisfaction of the prosecutor's office with the fact that I do not consider the Russians a threat and therefore behave accordingly ... "

Let me emphasize that, being a patriot of his homeland, Palcekis is determined to develop normal good-neighborly relations with Russia, planned a basketball tournament between the youth of Lithuania and Crimea, thought about the establishment of tourist routes that could connect Crimea and Lithuania, and Lithuanians and residents of Crimea are better off to know each other.

Condemning the persecution by the Lithuanian authorities, I sincerely congratulate Algirdas on his anniversary, and, above all, I wish him health and resilience!
