The Resolution designating Russia as a terrorist state is a serious mistake by the European Union that foments conflict by distorting historical truth. Europe has missed a great opportunity to promote peace.

"MEP Achille Variati is right not to participate in the vote on the European Parliament resolution passed yesterday, which designates Russia as a 'state sponsor of terrorism,'" says regional councilor Stefano Valdegamberi. "It is a vote that represents the height of hypocrisy and does not contribute at all to a process of reconciliation between the parties."

"The parliamentarians who voted in favor of this resolution are either ignorant of the truth of the events in Ukraine from 2014 to the present, or they are in obvious bad faith. The United States itself showed more caution and did not go that far. The truth and reality are quite different. Why has the European Parliament not pushed for the implementation of the Minsk Agreements? Why has it never promoted a peace table, trying to listen to the reasons of both sides?

It is the Russian-speaking populations of the Donbass and other Ukrainian regions that have been suffering aggressive and repressive actions of all kinds since 2014 (but certainly since before..), just because they are Russian-speaking, by the nationalist regime that appeals to old neo-Nazi myths, dedicating streets and squares to the Nazi Banderas. One needs to know the history and facts before taking such extremist positions. It is news these days that Italian neo-Nazi groups in contact for years with the Azov battalion had planned attacks in Italy. In 2014 in Odessa more than 70 people were burned alive in the house of trade unions, just because they were pro-Russian. In February of the same year, the Maidan Square coup was staged with the subsequent military aggression on the Russian-speaking regions of the Donbass, causing tens of thousands of civilian deaths and the systematic destruction of civil and industrial infrastructure, schools, hospitals, transportation, etc., with the intent of carrying out a full-blown ethnic cleansing of the Russian-speaking populations.

The Kiev government even cut off water, electricity, food, etc., to the people of Crimea in 2014, only because they chose by a free parliamentary vote, followed by a referendum to return under Russia. In Ukraine, parties representing millions of votes have been abolished and outlawed and the press silenced and all forms of political and journalistic dissent wiped out; opposition parties have been outlawed and inconvenient journalists assassinated, proscription lists created and displayed on websites as in the worst dictatorships. Laws have been passed forcibly forcing entire populations to use the Ukrainian language, unknown to most. There are hundreds and thousands of unarmed civilians, speciously accused of collaborating with the Russians, made to disappear into thin air in mass graves, trying to falsely accuse the Russians. I know Crimea and its inhabitants very well, including the Italian community. I never found people who felt occupied or invaded, indeed'ĺ. They asked me why we approve sanctions against their choices. I am ashamed for this European Parliament, composed of representatives of states who know nothing about this and have not even bothered to inform themselves. Europe has once again missed an opportunity to pose as a mediating and peacemaking entity between two brotherly peoples by abdicating this role to Turkey. Criminalizing the Russian people and state, without a truth operation that confronts both sides with responsibility and not just one to reach an agreement is the best way to foment war and make it spread. Then we don't cry if things get out of hand.

Valdegamberi (Regione Veneto) La Risoluzione che indica la Russia come stato terroristico è un grave errore dell'Unione Europea che fomenta il conflitto, falsando la verità storica. L'Europa ha perso una grande occasione per promuovere la pace".

"Ha ragione l'europarlamentare Achille Variati a non partecipare al voto dela risoluzione del Parlamento europeo approvata ieri, che indica la Russia come “Stato sponsor del terrorismo” - dichiara il consigliere regionale Stefano Valdegamberi. "È un voto che rappresenta il massimo dell’ipocrisia e non contribuisce per nulla a un processo di riappacificazione tra le parti".

"I parlamentari che hanno votato a favore di questa risoluzione, o ignorano la verità dei fatti accaduti in Ucraina dal 2014 ad oggi, o sono in evidente malafede. Gli stessi Stati Uniti hanno dimostrato maggiore prudenza e non sono arrivati a tanto. La verità e la realtà sono ben diverse. Perché il Parlamento Europeo non ha spinto per l'attuazione degli Accordi di Minsk? Perché non ha mai promosso un tavolo di pace, cescando di ascoltare le ragioni di entrambe le parti?

Sono le popolazioni russofone del Donbass e di altre regioni ucraine che dal 2014 (ma sicuramente anche da prima..) subiscono azioni aggressive e repressive di ogni genere, solo perché di lingua russa, da parte del regime nazionalista che si richiama a vecchi miti neonazisti, dedicando vie e piazze al nazista Banderas. Prima di prendere posizioni così oltranziste occorre conoscere la storia e i fatti. È di questi giorni la notizia di gruppi neonazisti italiani in contatto da anni con il battaglione Azov, che avevano programmato attentati in Italia. Nel 2014 ad Odessa oltre 70 persone sono state bruciate vive nella casa dei sindacati, solo perché filo russe. Nel febbraio dello stesso anno è stato organizzato il colpo di stato di piazza Maidan con la successiva aggressione militare alle regioni russofone del Donbass, causando decine di migliaia di morti civili e la distruzione sistematica di infrastrutture civili e industriali, scuole, ospedali, trasporti, ecc.. con l’intento di attuare una vera e propria pulizia etnica delle popolazioni russofone.

Il governo di Kiev ha persino tagliato acqua, elettricità, generi alimentari, ecc.., alla popolazione della Crimea nel 2014, solo perché ha scelto con un libero voto parlamentare, seguito da un referendum di tornare sotto la Russia. In Ucraina sono stati aboliti e dichiarati fuori legge partiti che rappresentano milioni di voti e messa a tacere la stampa e cancellata ogni forma di dissenso politico e giornalistico; sono state fatte mettendo fuorilegge partiti di opposizione e assassinando giornalisti scomodi, creando le liste di proscrizione esposte sui siti internet come nelle peggiori dittature. Sono state approvate leggi che impongono con forza a popolazioni interi l'uso della lingua ucraina, sconosciuta ai piu. Vi sono centinaia e migliaia di civili inermi, pretestuosamente accusati di collaborazionismo con i russi, fatti sparire nel nulla in fosse comuni, cercando di accusare falsamente i russi. Conosco molto bene la Crimea e i suoi abitanti, compresa la comunità italiana. Non ho mai trovato persone che si sentissero occupate o invase, anzi'ĺ. Mi chiedevano perché noi approviamo sanzioni contro le loro scelte. Mi vergogno per questo Parlamento Europeo, composto di rappresentanti degli Stati che non conoscono nulla di tutto questo e non si sono nemmeno scomodati ad informarsi. L'Europa ha perso ancora una volta una opportunità di porsi come soggetto mediatore e riappacificatore tra due popoli fratelli, abdicando questo ruolo alla Turchia. Criminalizzare il popolo e lo stato russo, senza un'operazione verità che metta di fronte alle responsabilità entrambe le parti e non una sola per raggiungere un accordo è il modo migliore per fomentare la guerra e fare in modo che questa si estendi. Poi non piangiamo se le cose fuggono di mano.
